We are here to help music teachers develop their music teaching practices whether they teach privately or whether they teach for another organisation such as in schools.

In doing so we aim not only to be free of charge to the teachers, but to share with them our success through a dividend scheme called Hoftokens

Teachers who register can then enrol students, or they can ask the students to enrol themselves.

If you opt to ask the students to enrol themselves you will not have to handle any money and you may still link to them so that you can see their progress. To do this email me and ask to be linked and I will transfer their membership to you. You will be able to monitor their progress, send newsletters and be awarded Hoftokens when they complete their course.

Aural training

. Develop your students’ musicianship by helping them learn to listen.

. Take pressure off lesson time by enabling students to practise their aural between lessons. (especially valuable if access to a piano is difficult during lesson time or time with individuals is restricted in group lessons.)

We give all students that you enrol with us unlimited access to the aural programme for up to four months.

You get to see demonstrations of every exercise and can leave messages for your students to direct their study. You can see how they are progressing, and exactly what practise they do.

When you enrol a student they get unlimited access for four months. For this there is a very reasonable charge which is designed to be passed on to the student in the same way that they would be expected to pay for other resources such as books or CDs. Teachers are not expected to bear the cost themselves.

When a student finishes using the course you can enter comments or their results and in return we credit your account with a dividend, ( called Hoftokens,) to recognise your involvement in working with us.

Child Protection

We take issues of child protection seriously here. And as a result have updated the site to allow for teachers to opt out of the facility to communicate with students through the site. Some education authorities feel this is vulnerable to abuse whereas others do not stipulate against it. If you would like to disable this feature, it can be done by emailing me a request to disable it. The teacher will still have sight of the student’s progress and be able to see when they practised, how many of which exercises they attempted and their results.

Our view is that it is the content of communication which may or may not be appropriate rather than the medium of communication. Therefore we do audit the messages that are being sent through the site. Our terms and conditions do stipulate that the site is not used for offensive and abusive communication, and we do maintain our right to inform authorities if there is something we believe to be dangerous. To date though there has been nothing to raise concern.

Newsletter

We produce a general newsletter monthly to which you can add news about your own students. This is emailed to all the students whose details you enter on our site completely free of charge irrespective of whether they have paid to enrol on a course or not.

Why not use it to circulate details of concerts, exam and other successess, birthdays, student of the month, etc and build up the commitment of your students to your teaching practice?

Those students who are enrolled with us will also get a summary of their progress in the previous month

CRB checks

For musicians in the UK who are teaching privately it can be very difficult to obtain a CRB check. We can help you to get this at a reasonable cost. This is a real benefit to teachers who want to declare their professionalism and care for their students. It also helps protect children. If it becomes the norm for music teachers to obtain a CRB check, less well intentioned people will find it more difficult to set up as music teachers in order to gain access to children.
